Jamshedpur: The South Eastern Railway (SER) on Sunday announced to restore train services following the partial withdrawal of the ‘rail roko’ agitation by members of Adivasi Kurmi Samaj (AKS).
The organisation had been agitating for the past four days demanding Scheduled Tribes (ST) status for the Kurmi community and inclusion of their language in the eight schedule of the constitution.
The agitation affected train services on the Howrah-Mumbai route forcing railways to cancel and divert several long and short-diatance trains.
SER in a press note said the group which had been staging a sit-in at Kustaur railway station since April 5 has vacated the tracks. Train services on the blocked route will be restored shortly, railway said. The Kustaur station which falls in the Sini-Chandil section of Adra division, comes under Mednipur-Adra route.
The members of the Kurmi Samaj who had been sitting on the tracks at Khemasoli station between Tatanagar-Kharagpur section, are said to have withdrawn the agitation on the assurance of a dialogue with the West Bengal government.
The railway has not communicated on this development till the filing of the news report.
Meanwhile, a group of AKS members launched an indefinite sit-in on the tracks at Kotshila railway station from Sunday afternoon.
Chakradharpur railway division officials informed that on Monday, Durg-Danapur South Bihar Express (13287), Tatanagar-Danapur (18183), Tatanagar-Thawe (18181) besides, Chakradharpur-Gomoh MEMU (18116/15) will leave on scheduled time.
Eight trains will be restored on the diverted Chandrapur-Barkakhana-Muri route from Monday. Train operations have gradually resumed, said additional commercial manager, Chakradharpur, Vineet Kumar.
