20 injured as two groups of boatmen clash at Patratu resort
Ramgarh: At least 20 boatmen, including five women, on Sunday were injured — five of them seriously — in a clash between nearly 70 boat-ride service providers and their families of two separate groups.
Police rushed to the spot and stopped the clash and the district administration stopped the boat services with immediate effect to restore peace.
The boatmen offer rides to the tourists visiting the Patratu Lake Resort here on the picturesque Patratu Dam. The critically injured five persons, three of them women, have been referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) in Ranchi.
Ramgarh sub-divisional officer Md Javed Hussain said, “We have stopped the boat services with immediate effect to restore peace. We will take lawful action against those responsible for the violence.”
Three committees, including a cooperative society formed by local displaced villagers, formed the Talatand Naav Yatayat Swalambi Sahkari Samitee and the Visthapit Naav Sangh which own seven motor boats.
