CHENNAI: The number of active Covid-19 cases has increased to 1,900 on Sunday with another 369 people testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
Among them, five were passengers who returned from Singapore (3), UAE (1) and Thailand (1).
Chennai (113) reported the maximum number of new infections followed by Chengalpattu (37), Thiruvallur (19) and Coimbatore (17).
The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) of these districts is also much higher compared to the state's average figure of 7.5%. Tami Nadu screens around 4,500 samples per day.
Health minister Ma Subramanian said that except for 12 to 13 districts, infection rate is very low.
The nature of infection is mild, and patients recover after 5 or 6 days.
"However, we continue to advise patients to take medicines only after consulting with doctors," he said.
This is because the number of patients needing hospitalisation is also increasing every day and the overall admission figure crossed the three-digit mark on Sunday.
A total of 104 patients are in Covid hospitals (Oxygen bed: 33, ICU:1 and non-oxygen: 70).
The state continued to record zero covid deaths in this recent phase and the overall death count remains unchanged at 38,050.
