JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda on Monday asserted that there is no question of his party going near to either the Congress or BJP, and announced that he will be touring various parts of the state for campaigning ahead of the Assembly polls in Karnataka.
The former Prime Minister said he will tour extensively in the party stronghold of Old Mysuru region and a couple of districts in northern parts of the state for campaigning.
The Congress on Monday petitioned the Election Commission seeking its intervention on rejection of the party advertisements and issuance of tenders worth a staggering Rs 16,000 crore by the BJP hours before the declaration of Karnataka Assembly elections.
The opposition party, which is seeking to wrest power from the BJP in the southern state, also demanded that certain officers in the poll panel who have completed more than six years, be transferred from Karnataka.

Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai said the BJP will have a very systematic and scientific campaign in the state. “We had an in-depth discussion over all 224 constituencies. We also sat and discussed the roadmap for campaigning in the entire state and we got a blueprint ready. We’re going to have a very systematic and scientific campaign this time,” he said.
Congress leader Lavanya Ballal hit out at the BJP over Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) brand Nandini and said the party has done nothing for farmers.

The ruling BJP has promised to include children of auto drivers in the Raitha Vidya Nidhi scheme if it comes back to power. It has also announced that it will provide educational assistance to the children of auto drivers. Politics is heating up in poll-bound Karnataka with the issue of “lotus-shaped” airport terminal in Shivamogga and the row over Amul’s entry into the state being the latest ones hitting the headlines.
While Congress has asked the Election Commission of India to cover up the lotus-shaped Shivamogga airport terminal till polls conclude, the party has also raised objection to Amul’s entry into the state while rooting for Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), whose products are sold under the name ‘Nandini’.
Meanwhile, with just days left for the assembly polls in Karnataka, another development on the political front in the state has been the much-awaited Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate list which is expected to be released today.
Voting for the Karnataka Assembly election 2023 will take place on May 10, while the counting of votes and results will be out on May 13.
The BJP Central Election Committee (CEC) met in Delhi on Sunday to finalise party’s candidates for the Karnataka assembly polls. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was joined by Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda and other members of the CEC along with senior party leaders, including Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, to discuss the names of probable candidates.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who last week said some seats will give a “surprise result”, confirmed on Sunday that he is going to contest from Shiggaon seat. CM Bommai had said a few days back he would seek reelection from his home town of Shiggaon in Haveri district in the Assembly elections.
Amul vs Nandini Debate Escalates
As Karnataka inches towards elections, the political row over the entry of Amul into Karnataka gas escalated, with Opposition attacking the BJP government and the Prime Minister destroying cooperative society, Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF).
Former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah took to Twitter to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, labelling the move as “Gujarat intrusion” into Karnataka.
“With the entry of Gujarat’s Amul into our state the demand for Nandini will further fall and the storage of KMF will further decrease. Why are you trying to hurt the farmers whose main source of Income is dairy farming Mr.Narendra Modiji?[sic]” read the tweet.
Siddaramaiah further alleged that the products of state brand Nandini are fast disappearing from the market and are being replaced by Amul right after Home minister Amit Shah pitched the idea of merger of Amul and KMF in Karnataka and called it an unusual development taking place in the state of Karnataka.
PM Modi in Poll-bound Karnataka
PM Modi was in the poll-bound state on Sunday and took a jungle safari at the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka, as part of programmes that were lined up to mark 50 years of “Project Tiger”.
Donning speckled safari clothing, shades and hat, PM Modi reportedly covered went on a 20-km long safari in an open jeep at the Tiger Reserve which is located partly in Gundlupet taluk of Chamarajanagar district, and partly in HD Kote and Nanjangud taluks of Mysuru District.
Later, PM Modi also visited the Theppakkadu elephant camp at Mudumalai in the hilly Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu and interacted with Bellie and Bomman, the elephant caretakers who featured in an Oscar-winning documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’.
Suspense On Over Congress’s Kolar Seat Face; Siddaramaiah, Kolar Missing from Party’s 2nd List for Karnataka
Former chief minister Siddaramaiah’s wish to stand from Kolar remained unaddressed as the second list of 42 candidates released by the Congress on Thursday, April 6, did not have the name of the high-stakes assembly seat. Sources said the Kolar candidate is expected to feature in the third list, which will be declared in the next few days, sources said.
Another event that has kept the poll-bound state in limelight is the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 that is currently underway and will see a high-octane match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants in Bengaluru today.
