RAJKOT: Self-styled social and right-wing activist Kajal Hindustani was arrested by the Una police on Sunday for allegedly delivering a 'hate speech' targeting a specific community that sparked communal clashes in the town on April 1.
Hindustani surrendered before the local police following which she was arrested and produced before a court which remanded her in judicial custody as cops did not seek her remand. She was sent to Junagadh jail.
On the day of Ram Navami on March 30, she had participated in a congregation organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Una town where she allegedly delivered the speech making caustic remarks against a community. Local BJP MLA KC Rathod had also shared the dais with her.
Communal tension gripped Una for two days after her speech and led to a clash between people of two faiths where mobs resorted to heavy stone pelting on April 1 night.
While 96 people have been arrested for rioting and other IPC sections in a separate FIR, cops lodged a complaint against Hindustani on April 2.
An FIR was lodged against her on April 2 under section 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code on April 2.
Sources said that after arresting her, police took Hindustani in a private car to the court.
When asked, officials said this was done considering "security" reasons.
Hindustani, who claims to be an entrepreneur, research analyst, social activist, nationalist, and a "proud Indian" on her Twitter bio is a regular at events organised by VHP.
