JAIPUR: After the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) approval, Jaipur International Airport now has 19 new parking bays for aircraft, said officials on Sunday.
"The DGCA gave final approval for commissioning of 19 new parking bays at Jaipur airport. Earlier there were only 14 parking bays but after the new approval Jaipur airport the capacity has increased to park 33 aircraft of type C category. The work for development of seven more parking bays for type-E category aircraft is also proposed to start by this year," said the official spokesperson. Category C includes Airbus 320 or Boeing 737 which carry loads of 165 to 220 passengers.
Officials further said that with increasing air traffic and regular diversions at Jaipur airport, the commissioning of new parking bays will improve airside operation. The construction work of new parking bays started in 2018 at Jaipur airport and was completed by 2019.
Due to technical flaws DGCA raised several objections which derailed the approval and commissioning process of new parking bays.
In 2022 all projects were taken up again and all technical glitches were fixed up minutely, following which DGCA finally granted the approval.
Construction and commissioning of additional seven parking bays for type-E category is also proposed at Jaipur airport. The work in this regard is slated to start in the coming months.
