In past 5 years, MSU has verified 75 fake degrees
Vadodara: In the past five years, MS University officials have come across as many as 75 fake degrees that had come for verification at the university head office.
Interestingly, the number of such fake degrees that the university officials have come across is on the rise in the recent times compared to the previous years.
In a written response to a query raised by senate member Kapil Joshi, the university officials have revealed that in the academic year 2018-19, the university had caught hold of 12 such fake degrees.
The following year, in the academic year 2019-20, varsity had come across 15 such fake degrees.
Even as the number of such fake degrees reduced to eight in academic year 2020-21, the numbers again rose in the two subsequent academic years. Both in academic year 2021-22 and 2022-23, the university officials came across 20 fake degrees each.
Joshi had sought information of bogus degrees that had come for verification in the past five years.
Officials said that most of these degrees were found fake or bogus when they arrived for verification at the examination section of the university.
Every year, the section sees a couple of instances when some or other fake degree comes up for verification. Usually, recruiting agencies, companies that hire young graduates or foreign universities who enrol graduates who have passed out from the university send degree certificates of students for verification at the university head office.
During the verification process, the university officials cross-check the academic records in the university to verify the degrees. Joshi however did not get any response on the action that the university takes once it comes across or catches hold of such bogus degrees.
