The flow of tourists visiting Kashmir valley, particularly the Tulip garden on the slopes of Zabarwan in Srinagar, has increased as a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tweets complimenting the beauty of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Jammu and Kashmir is beautiful, and even more so during the Tulip season”, the Prime Minister had said in a recent tweet.
“The impact of Prime Minister’s tweet regarding Jammu and Kashmir and Tulip season had a good effect and tourist inflow to the Tulip Garden is on high note”, UNI quoted Shayiq Rasool, Floriculture officer of Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, as saying.
He stated that the number of tourists has increased since 2022, with 2.65 lakh tourists visiting the Tulip Garden in the previous 20 days. On a daily basis, 13,000-14,000 people visit the garden, and on Sunday, the number rises to 20,000 to 25,000.
Shayiq Rasool said that “when a tweet on a particular purpose is being floated on the highest level it definitely has a good impact on the subject”, adding “Last year the Prime Minister also tweeted and that also had a marked impact on the arrival of the tourists to the Tulip garden”.
He stated that more than two lakh domestic visitors from West Bengal, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and the southern states are now visiting Kashmir valley, and that a large number of foreigners have also visited the Tulip Garden this year.
He expressed optimism that the previous year’s record of 3.60 lakh tourists will be broken this year if weather conditions remained fair.
Visitors are delighted by the beautiful splendour of Asia’s second biggest Tulip Garden, which is located in the Zabarwan foothills near the famous Dal Lake, according to Shayiq Rasool.
He stated that the influx of domestic tourists is excellent, and that the number of visitors is growing by the day as the weather remains favourable.
“The Tulip Garden looks like a colorful carpet with a sea of flowers spread on the lap of the Zabarwan hills mesmerizing the visiting tourists”, he said, and added “the tourists feel they have reached heaven when they enter the garden”.
He said last year 159 foreign tourists visited the Tulip garden and this year so far 1400 have thronged and many more are expected to come.
“It is a Tulip festival going on like a Mela and if one sees a huge rush of visitors is visible on the road leading to the Tulip garden near Dal Lake”, he added.
He stated that for tourists who are now visiting Kashmir Valley, Tulip Garden is the major attraction before going on to other areas. In terms of the Tulip Garden’s timetable, Shayiq Rasool stated, “There is no definite schedule for how long the garden will be open.”
He stated that the garden is currently in full bloom. He stated that if the weather and temperature remain favourable, the tourist influx will last at least one month. He stated that as long as the Tulip Garden time continues, the state’s economy will benefit.
