The fourth and final day of Bennett University’s sports fest Sportikon saw a string of finals. Jamia Millia Islamia defeated Bennett University in a thrilling basketball match. “We were in the lead from the start. We practice regularly and were determined to win,” said Mohammed Amaan, captain of Jamia Millia Islamia.

Meanwhile, kabaddi was another sport that had the audience on the edge of their seats. Amity University, Noida was competing against Noida College of Physical Education (NCPE), and after a thrilling match, it was the latter that secured the gold medal. “In the beginning, the score was more or less the same, but we got the lead as the game progressed,” Shubham Bhidauri of NCPE said. “It was the perfect coordination among our members that led to this victory,” he added. Apart from the medal, the team also won a cash prize of Rs 41,000.

The day ended with a closing ceremony in which medals, plaques and cash prizes were presented to the students by Sudhanshu Varma, the Chief Operating Officer of BU. “Sportikon is a great concept with such importance being given to sports. Sports is one of the core things that brings discipline to a student’s life,” he said, adding. “What is impressive is that there were no conflicts among teams over winning or losing. It was a good example of sportsman spirit.”
