In Haryana, active Covid cases triple in last 10 days

CHANDIGARH: The number of active Covid-19 cases in Haryana have tripled over the past 10 days, rising from 579 on March 31 to 1,536 on Saturday, shows data with the state’s health department. The rise in active cases is primarily because of a spike in Covid infections. While there were 142 new cases on March 31, the figure for Saturday was 399. This number had been rising gradually over the 10-day period. Though most of the cases have been reported from Gurugram, the figures are worrying for Panipat and Panchkula too.
Panipat reported a postivity rate, which is the percentage of positive cases among tested samples, of 50% and 100% on April 1 and 2, respecively. This means that all samples tested in Panipat on April 2 were postive for Covid. Jhajjar has reported a positivity rate of 18.48% for the week from March 31 to April 6. The worst figure was on April 5, when the positivity rate was 66.67%.
Though Gurugram and Faridabad have been getting the highest number of cases, the positivity rate has been 6.92% in Gurugram and 10.12% in Faridabad. In Panchkula and Sonipat, the figure is 12.54% and 10.78%, respectively.
“Since testing has almost doubled since February and mid-March, there are more cases. There is nothing to worry as the department has made elaborate arrangements for Covid diagnosis and treatment. We are taking special care of patients with co-morbidities,” a health official said.
