NOIDA: Several residents of the Gaur Sportswood housing society in Sector 78, Noida, have fallen ill in the past few days with skin infections, typhoid, and diarrhoea. Residents complained to the society maintenance team, however, the situation remains the same.
Many have resorted to using bottled water for daily use. “Every resident is going through gastroenteritis issues, upset stomach, etc. Kids are usually facing loose motion and vomiting these days. The RO systems have failed and we have been using bottled water for the past 3-4 months to drink. The concerned authorities are not sensitive to the plight of the people or their health”, said Suresh Bajpai, a resident of the society.
In 2021, around nine cases of hepatitis A were reported in the society due to the poor quality water. Residents fear that a similar situation might occur this time as well. “Water supplied to us has high TDS. Many times when we check, we find TDS control of more than 2,000 and water is too salty, which is harmful to the health and skin of residents.
Because of this, children and elders are complaining of stomach aches and other waterborne diseases. Residents are also complaining of typhoid,” said Sanwarjeet Singh, another resident of the society. Amit, a resident who has fallen ill, reported that, in the past few days, people have begun reporting symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea.
“Several residents of the condominium had these symptoms, including me. Our entire family got sick with different infections and allergies. My son is now unwell and I’ve got a skin infection. We have been surviving on bottled water for the last 3 weeks,” he said.
Residents said that the water is coming out mostly yellow or black. Meanwhile, the Ganga water supply was also disrupted, due to which borewell water was supplied to the society. An official from the water department has said, “We continuously monitor the TDS level, however, on Monday we will check things on the ground.”
