Three cats die in Port Huron Township house fire

A Port Huron Township residence was a total loss following a Friday fire.

The Port Huron Township Fire Department responded to the fire at about 2 p.m. Friday in the 3000 block of Howard Road. The two homeowners were outside when dispatchers arrived. There were no injuries, according to Fire Chief Andrew Persig.

There were five cats inside the home. The firefighters were able to save two, but the remaining three died in the fire.

The fire was suppressed after 30 minutes. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
