Humza Yusaf and Mairi McAllan, Scottish First Minister and Just Transition Secretary, respectively, paid a visit to the Port of Aberdeen to witness first-hand the GBP 400 million ($497.6 million) South Harbor expansion.

Yousaf and McAllan visited the port on Tuesday, April 4, and saw how the port is supporting Scotland’s Just Transition and creating new opportunities in energy, trade, decarbonization, and tourism, the port noted.

Senior leaders from the port, Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, Energy Transition Zone, and Opportunity North East met with Yousaf and McAllan to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the region’s key industries, including oil and gas and renewables, the port said in its statement.

The First Minister announced GBP 25 million ($31 million) in funding for the Scottish National Investment Bank from the Scottish Government’s Just Transition Fund to accelerate the energy transition in Aberdeen and the North East.

“Port of Aberdeen has been at the heart of the nation’s energy industry for more than 50 years and our vision is to become Scotland’s premier net zero port. Our transformational South Harbor expansion will help make that a reality,” Bob Sanguinetti, Chief Executive of the Port of Aberdeen, said.

“We have invested more than half a billion pounds in recent decades to enhance our infrastructure. Now even closer public and private sector collaboration is needed to unlock the full potential of the expanded port and ensure we lead on the path to net zero,” Sanguinetti added.
