NASHIK: The state government has provided 21 new four-wheelers to the city police, which has been facing a shortage of vehicles.
These vehicles were handed over by the district guardian minister, Dada Bhuse, to the city police at a small function on Saturday at the police commissionerate, where he also flagged off the new fleet of vehicles. Also present on the occasion were MLA Devyani Pharande, MLA Seema Hirey, CP Ankush Shinde, DCP Prashant Bacchav, DCP Kiran Chavan, and DCP Chandrakant Khandvi, among others.
The police said these vehicles have been procured from the district planning committee fund with the approval of the district collector at a cost of over Rs 1.93 crore.
Senior police officials said that the funds were approved after the sincere efforts put in by Bhuse.
CP Ankush Shinde said that the new vehicles would be handed over to DCPs, ACPs, and Senior PIs, and their existing vehicles would then be handed over to their subordinating officers, who do not currently have vehicles. Presently, the city police have 247 two- and four-wheel vehicles at their disposal, but some of these vehicles are unusable.
The additional number of vehicles would boost the morale of officers.
