PUNE: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said chances of very light to light rain and thundershowers would remain in the city till April 13.
Wind speed picked up on Friday night with "moderately strong" winds throughout Saturday morning. A "yellow' alert has been issued for Pune city and district due to a very likely chance of thundery activity and lightning till Sunday.
Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather forecasting division, IMD-Pune, told TOI, "Satellite images on Saturday showed thundery cloud development over Maharashtra. All three stations here (Shivajinagar, Pashan and Pune) were reporting Cumulonimbus clouds."
He said, "A trough in the easterlies runs from Kerala to Madhya Maharashtra across interior Karnataka. The trough/wind discontinuity (present earlier) from central Madhya Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu has become less marked."
Kashyapi said, "The state is experiencing high temperatures along with high moisture, resulting in local instability at isolated to scattered places. This is causing convective activities in and around the state. "
