Police: Decomposed body belonged to Patna woman

Dumka: Police on Saturday said they have arrested five persons in connection with the finding of a decomposed body of a woman from the hilltop under the Saraiyahat police station four days ago.
Addressing a press conference at the Saraiyahat police station, the SDPO of Jarmundi, Shivendra, said the deceased was a 45-year-old mother of seven and was a resident of the Maner police station area in the Patna district of neighbouring Bihar. She eloped with one Subodh Kumar (39) of Rampur Diyara village under the same police station on March 12 this year. Subodh was divorced and worked as a driver at the Maner police station. He was having an affair with the deceased for the last couple of years, Shivendra said.
He further said, “On the insistence of Subodh, the woman eloped with him leaving her husband and her children and reached Babhni village under Saraiyahat police station where they stayed together at the house of Subodh’s friend identified as Mithun Das till April 5. Subodh then strangled her after she insisted on their marriage.” The woman also took her five-year-old daughter when she eloped with Subodh but abandoned her at the Patna train junction before arriving in Jharkhand, he said.
Shivendra added, “Subodh abandoned the body on the nearby hilltop with the help of his friend and his three relatives after carrying the corpse on a bicycle. The minor daughter of the deceased was taken into custody by Patna Police when they found her wandering alone. The in-laws of the deceased did not bother to make any attempts to find her as she had run away on previous occasions, too. ”
Those arrested included Vasudeo Das (31), Fagu Das (68) and Devnarayan Das (58), relatives of Mithun Das apart from Mithun Das and Subodh Kumar.
Some villagers informed the police after spotting an abandoned bag with a foul smell emanating from it on the hilltop. Later, the police picked up the body and sent it for postmortem at the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital. The SDPO said he led the team which investigated and cracked the case.
