Couple cheat jewellers of 256 sovereigns of gold, arrested

Coimbatore: The Bazaar police on Friday arrested a married couple for cheating jewellery shop owners of 256 sovereigns of gold ornaments.
The arrested couple was identified as P Deepak, 32, and his wife D Varshini, 27, of Ashok Nagar at Selvapuram. They were jewellery dealers and regular clients of complainant D Baskar, 53, of Savithri Nagar at Chetty Street, who runs a jewellery shop on Big Bazaar Street.
“The duo approached some ornament manufactures and smithery unit owners and received 256 sovereigns of gold jewellery from them between January 5 and February 10, but refused to pay or return the ornaments,” a police officer said.
The couple was booked under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code. They were remanded in judicial custody.
