Gurgaon: An unidentified person has been booked for allegedly creating fake dating profiles by pretending to be a 59-year-old doctor and sending friend requests to several men.
The woman received hundreds of messages and was shocked to know that her number had been uploaded on several sites.
She alleged that her nickname had also been shared on apps such as Tinder, Bumble, OkCupid, Badoo and Hinge. The woman alleged she had written to these apps, but her pictures were yet to be removed.
"My phone was flooded with messages from unknown people since March 30. Later, I came to know that someone had uploaded my pictures on Tinder, a dating site I have never used," the girl told Gurgaon police.
She further added that few shared screen grabs, which she has passed it on to the police as well.
“I was quite flustered as the picture was definitely mine, but the name was not. When I reported this to Tinder, I thought this incident was over. Another profile was created and time with my real name and the same picture. That is when I reported the same to cyber police," the woman doctor told police.
She also said that the accused is using her same profile on various applications and she has been totally flustered with this invasion of her privacy.
An FIR under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and 419 (whoever cheats by personation) of the IPC has been registered at the Cyber crime police station Gurgaon.
"We got a complaint on April 2 and our team is investigating. An FIR has been registered on Friday night. We will arrest the accused soon," said police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
