RANCHI: Three persons were arrested in connection with the death of 18-year-old Wajid Ansari (18), who was allegedly beaten up after tying him to a tree at Mahuatoli village under Chanho police station. Ansari succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) on Friday. Police, however, denied that it was a case of mob lynching.
Police also said Ansari was allegedly trying to steal valuables from a grocery shop early on Friday morning when the owner, Jivan Oroan, woke up and raised an alarm.
‘Family members, neighbour beat thief’
Oraon, his family members, and a neighbour caught and tied him to a tree. They then started beating him up when the police came and rescued him. SP (rural) Naushad Alam said, “A police team rushed to the spot after getting information and rescued the man. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors said his condition is critical. He died during the course of treatment.”
Denying it to be a case of mob lynching, SP Alam said family members, who owned the shop, thrashed Wajid. Jivan and Govardhan Oroan and their neighbour Nandu, have been arrested. “Further investigation is on,” the SP added.
