AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad Crime Branch will probe the educational qualifications of alleged conman Kiran Patel, who was brought to the city in the wee hours of Saturday.
He had been arrested in Jammu & Kashmir last month for posing as a PMO official. The crime branch had received a tip-off that Patel's name does not figure in the alumni list of LD Engineering College.
Patel claimed to have got his engineering diploma in computer science from Polytechnic in Ahmedabad. "He also claims to have completed his degree through a bridge course at LD Engineering College. He said he worked with an advertising agency here then went abroad," said DCP (crime) Chaitanya Mandlik.
"We will probe his educational qualifications, especially whether he studied at LD Engineering College. We will lodge an FIR against him if his degrees are found to be fake," Mandlik added.
Sources in the crime branch said they had information that his name does not appear on the LD Engineering College alumni list.
Patel also claimed to have a one-year executive MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu in 2021-22.
The police will cross-check the information with the institution.
If the degree is fake, the crime branch will ensure a complaint is registered in Tiruchirappalli against Patel, said police.
