Bokaro: Residents of three villages have expressed their resentment of the poor quality of work taken up under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), which aims to connect rural areas with urban centres. The residents claimed that the roads constructed are substandard and shared videos of the poor-quality roads on social media which have gone viral.
Within two weeks of their construction, the roads located in Asanbani of Chandankiyari, and Kumhri and Dharampura of the Chas block, have started to crumble.
In Asanbani, a layer of bitumen has come out. The villagers have tagged chief minister Hemant Soren and other administration officials in the video uploaded on social media.
In the Chas block, the villagers uploaded a video in which a large portion of the bitumen was easily removed by hand. The villagers complained that this poorly constructed road will hardly be able to last the coming monsoon.
Taking note of their protests, the state secretary of the ruling Congress, Shweta Singh, inspected the roads recently. Singh said, “The road was of a poor standard and the scam of putting a layer of bitumen over the road has come to the fore. Such shoddy work defames the good deeds of the government. I will soon inform the senior office bearers of the party.”
