MUMBAI: Covid cases in the state (542) registered a 41% drop on Saturday due to a drop in testing over the long Good Friday weekend. From 11,881 tests that ere done for the Friday detections, the number of tests fell to 6,651 on Saturday, said the state government's daily Covid update.
Cases in Mumbai dropped from 276 on Friday to 207 on Saturday, with a similar drop in number of tests. However, officials of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said that the number of daily tests would increase next week. "We will test for Covid at our dispensaries and HBT (mohalla) clinics too," said BMC's executive health officer Dr Mangala Gomare.
One person died due to Covid in Amravati on Saturday, taking the toll for the month of April in Maharashtra to 17; while 20 Covid deaths occurred in the month of March. Mumbai has registered two deaths in April so far.
Meanwhile, the daily Covid-19 cases in Nagpur dropped to 20 on Saturday from Friday's 84, but officials from the health department said that two patients, who died during treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital, for their pre-existing ailments, had tested positive for Covid-19.
An elderly man, a cancer patient from Madhya Pradesh, who died during treatment at AIIMS Nagpur on Friday, was also Covid--19 positive. This means that three patients of Covid have died in the city in the last two days.
However, the Nagpur divisional health department's death audit committee will decide on Monday whether these deaths are to be included in the Covid-19 toll.
