THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of differences over the way
Kerala Students Union's (KSU) office-bearers have been reconstituted, Congress leaders V T Balram and K Jayant resigned from the state supervisory charges of KSU.
It is reliably learnt that both the leaders, who were holding the charge of KSU reconstitution in the state, had informed KPCC president K Sudhakaran about their decision.
It is learnt that the reasons pointed out by them for relinquishing the charge were that two criteria the size of the committee and that only unmarried individuals should be appointed as office-bearers have been compromised when the new list was announced.
While a 45-member list of office-bearers was submitted under the supervision of Balram and Jayant, it was an 80-member list that was announced. Also, there were married individuals who made it to the final list, it is learnt.
The KSU's new list of office-bearers was announced on Saturday, in which there are four vice-presidents and 30 general secretaries.
District presidents have been appointed for all the districts by giving ample representation for the groups within the party.
The national leadership had already announced Aloysius Xavier as the KSU president and Ann Sebastian and Muhammed Shammas as the vice-presidents last year. The new list has appointed the remaining office-bearers.
