Woman ends life; fiancé, kin booked
Vadodara: After a young woman residing in the Waghodiya Road area of the city took her own life on Tuesday, the Bapod police booked her fiancé and his relatives for abetment of suicide.
Deceased Vandana Rohit had hung herself from a fan at her residence. Her family members rushed her to the SSG Hospital (SSGH) where she was declared dead. Vandana’s father Zaver Rohit said that when the officials at the hospital sought her Aadhaar card, they went to find it in her scooter and instead found her suicide note in the vehicle’s boot space. The note blamed her fiancé Tejas Chauhan, a resident of Gokulesh Society near Khatamba for her taking the extreme step.
An offence registered with the Bapod police by the father states that Vandana was to marry Tejas, but about 15 days ago, she had told her father that they would undergo a registered marriage on April 18 followed by a traditional wedding that can be organized on April 26. Tejas had also confirmed this when he came to Zaver’s residence.
Zaver said that after this, Chauhan’s family had called Vandana to meet them near Vaikunth Crossroads. Vandana’s sister Divya and her mother Veena accompanied her as they were feeling suspicious.
The trio met Tejas, his parents, sister and his sister’s husband at the crossroads. Zaver alleged that the family used abusive words and threats and demanded that the wedding should be called off as Veena’s family was poor.
