Several letter writers are convinced that Sen. Joe Manchin, in exchange for his vote supporting the Inflation Reduction Act, has been double-crossed by President Biden (Letters, April 5). I want to remind those writers that Mr. Manchin is as skilled in Washington performance art as any of his colleagues.
What viable option remains for him to save face with his constituents in West Virginia? He voted with his party while feigning belief that his state’s Mountain Valley Pipeline would get the green light. Now that the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals has struck down the permit, he can play the jilted party left at the altar. Mr. Manchin should have seen it coming, you say? Do you believe he didn’t?
