NOIDA: Three people have been arrested on Friday for illegally smuggling liquor worth Rs 15 lakh from Haryana in a bus, cops said, adding that the accused were taking the alcohol to
Bihar, where they would sell it at higher prices as the state has prohibited sale of alcohol.
According to police, the accused are Mohd Shakib (27), Abdulla (22) - both residents of Hapur and Ahmad (25) from Meerut.
Ashok Kumar, additional deputy commissioner of police, Greater Noida, said, "Following a tip-off, the bus was intercepted by a joint team from narcotics cell and Dadri police station near Beel Akbarpur village in Dadri. The bus had around 30 passengers and upon checking, 180 cartons of different brands of liquor were found hidden in false side walls under the seats."
The bus was seized and the passengers were asked to deboard and take alternate mode of conveyance.
"The liquor recovered was legally meant for sale in Haryana. The accused told that they got the stock from Murthal," Kumar said.
Criminal history of the accused is being checked. The three have been sent to judicial custody and booked under relevant sections of the Excise Act.
