Tribals hit the streets over Sarna flag issue
Ranchi: Hundreds of tribal community members, including women, took out a torch procession here on Friday evening in support of the Ranchi bandh, which has been called by the Pahan Mahasabha to protest the alleged uprooting and burning of Sarna flags at the Karmatoli Chowk in the city on March 25.
Dressed in traditional attire, the bandh supporters took out the procession from the Jaipal Singh stadium to the Albert Ekka Chowk, demanding the arrest of the culprits.
They also sought action against the land sharks who are allegedly taking possession of tribal land by wrong means.
He said, “People from Ranchi and neighbouring districts took part in the procession held on Friday. We are demanding strict action against those involved in the act. Our agitation will be intensified if the demand is not fulfilled.”
Ranchi (city) SP Subhranshu Jain said they have registered an FIR in this connection under sections of the Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste Act and an investigation was going on.
Meanwhile, the Ranchi district administration has issued an order for the deployment of magistrates and police forces in the city to maintain law and order during the bandh.
