Adichunchanagiri pontiff visits MRF at Karkala
Mangaluru: Jagadguru Sri Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji, pontiff of Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Mutt, visited the material recovery facility (MRF) at Nitte Karkala on Thursday. Dilraj Alva, managing director of Mangaluru based start-up Mangala Resource Management Pvt. Ltd, explained the functionality of the MRF plant, to the pontiff.
The start-up has been operating the rural facility since August 2022. It has managed nearly 2,000 tonnes of waste, hitherto, impacting 47 villages of Udupi ZP , covering 72,000 houses and 7,000 commercial establishments. The start-up is also operating a similar MRF at Yedapadavu, awarded by Dakshina Kannada ZP, with the capacity of handling 10 tonnes per day.
The start-up is also providing waste management solutions to 18 apartments in Mangaluru, covering 800 flats, under the zero waste apartment project.
It is also handling one tonne of dry waste in Bala gram panchayat, under the zero waste village project. At Kateel Shree Durgaparameshwari Temple, it is handling one tonne of garbage per day under the zero waste temple project and has been providing integrated waste management solutions to KS Hegde Medical Academy by handling two tonnes of waste under zero waste campus project, Alva stated.
The start-up has the capacity to handle 10,000 tonnes of solid waste per annum.
