Chinchinim locals unhappy with road plans

Canacona: The discussion on the proposed expansion of NH66 along the Danddeavaddo stretch of Chinchinim dominated the village development committee meeting of the panchayat recently.
Residents residing close to the existing highway attended the meeting in large numbers and gave vent to their displeasure, pointing out they had suffered the most since the mid-80s when PWD had acquired their land for a paltry sum to build a two-lane highway.
Locals said that some villagers had to raze their ancestral houses to make way for the highway and had to build new houses as a result, adding that PWD has again set out to acquire the little area left of their properties.
Locals also drew the attention of the panchayat body that they cannot undertake any development on either side of the highway as there is a freeze on development.
