HYDERABAD: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has found fault with the Telangana police for not taking any action against people who publicly displayed Nathuram Godse’s portrait during the Ram Navami rally in Hyderabad recently.
“Godse who killed Gandhi, is the first terrorist of India. Some of the people were roaming with his photo in public. Who were these people who were dancing with the photos of Godse? What kind of police is this which did not take any action against them? Police would have swung into action if people had carried a photo of Osama Bin Laden and the media would have played it up saying Hyderabad has become a hotbed of terrorists. Why did the police remain silent? What do they have to do with Godse," asked Owaisi.
He said this while speaking at a programme in a mosque at Shaikpet on Friday.
Godse's photo was taken in a rally attended by BJP MLA T Raja Singh on Ram Navami. Recently, Congress former MP V Hanumanth Rao too lodged a complaint with the police urging it to take action against those who openly displayed the photo of Godse in a rally.
Referring to the demolition of Babri Masjid, Owaisi said AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel sat in a temple for over eight hours to protect it from any kind of attacks. "This is the commitment of AIMIM and Mulims towards secularism and respecting other religions. But you saw what they did to Babri mosque," he said.
Referring to the attacs on a madrasa and a mosquue in Bihar, the AIMIM chief slammed the so-called secular parties for not even having the courage to condemn the BJP or RSS members' acts of violence and lynching against Muslims or their religious places. But these secular parties easily blame the AIMIM as the B-team of the BJP.
"I want to make it clear that no one can buy Owaisi. We are not B-team but A-team of the poor and oppressed classes. The AIMIM will go places and continue to fight injustice against the poor and oppressed regardless of their religion," he said.
He called upon the Muslims to realise that the formula of so-called secular parties for Muslims and Dalits safety has failed as atrocities are increasing against them and gave a clarion call to them to build their own political force to have adequate representation in all the elected bodies so that they have a strong voice which cannot be ignored.
