CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: A 32-year-old doctor from the city, who was looking for a loan of Rs 10 crore to set up his own hospital, was scammed of Rs 11 lakh by a conman.
Based on the complaint lodged by Sunil Solunke of Malhar Chowk, the Kranti Chowk police registered a case of cheating against a man, who first came in contact with the medico about 16 to 18 months ago.
Inspector Santosh Patil said that the alleged incident took place sometime December 3, 2021 and November 21, 2022. The suspected man kept taking money from Solunke on the pretext of processing fees in a bid to clear the loan file.
“The suspected man would each time reach out to the doctor and take money on the pretext of processing the loan file. Moreover, to win the trust of the medico, he even signed an agreement with him stating that all the money taken for processing the loan file will be returned if the loan proposal was rejected,” Patil said.
In addition to this, the suspect even handed over a couple of cheques to the medico and continued taking the money from him.
“After almost 10 months, Solunke grew anxious and started rigorously following-up with the suspect. While the man initially gave him evasive answers, later he began avoiding the doctor’s phone calls entirely,” Patil added.
To get his money back, he went to the bank and deposited the two cheques the man had given him. This is when he found out that the signatures on them did not match the bank records. He also found out that the man had never submitted his loan proposal to the bank.
Realising that he had been cheated, the medico reached out to the police and lodged a complaint, following which an FIR was registered.
