Congress leader rebukes MP Bittu for comments against Navjot Singh Sidhu
LUDHIANA: Congress’ Member of Parliament from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu, has come under scathing attack from his own party colleagues on the issue of his remarks against Navjot Singh Sidhu. Senior Congress leader Parminder Mehta and other partymen on Friday organised a press conference against Bittu and slammed him for his remarks. The leaders warned Bittu to desist from making such statements in future and they have also filed a complaint against him with the party high command.
Speaking to mediapersons, Mehta said, “Bittu’s rant against Navjot Singh Sidhu is very shocking and it cannot be ruled out that Ludhiana MP might be acting at behest of some outsiders to damage his own party. Sidhu is one of the most popular leader of Congress in the country, moreover Congress high command and even our topmost leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are fully supportive of Sidhu and are aware about his capabilities. So any attempt to belittle Sidhu means directly challenging decision of our top leaders.”
Mehta also added, “It is sad that at a time when Sidhu’s comeback infused new energy amongst the Congress leaders and workers of Punjab, Bittu is indulging into giving irresponsible statements which are hurting the party. Bittu on earlier occasion too has damaged Congress party by making controversial remarks and foolish statements quite often. He can go to any extent for personal gains and we have sufficient proofs to expose him but due to party’s ethics we are bound not to cross our limit and embarrass him publicly. We therefore advise Bittu to desist from this act of indiscipline which is helping opposition parties and giving a bad impression to the general public too about our party. If he does not mends his ways we will be forced to take some tough steps against him and as of now we have sent a complaint against him to our party head office.”
Meanwhile Bittu could not be contacted for his comments on the issue.
