Citizens’ faith in law rests on judicial independence: CJI
Guwahati: Chief justice of India DY Chandrachud, while speaking at the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Gauhati High Court here on Friday, said the relationship between the executive and the judiciary on the administrative side should be marked by a sense of robust constitutional statesmanship while on the judicial side, the confidence and faith of citizens on the judiciary lies in the sense of judicial independence.
He underlined, “Constitutional statesmanship, above all, whether it is on administrative or judicial side, requires deliberation, requires dialogue, not public grandstanding.”
Addressing the function graced by President Draupadi Murmu, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Uunion law minister Kiren Rijiju besides a host of Supreme Court judges and chief justices and judges of high courts, the CJI said, “The relation between executive and the judiciary on the administrative side have to be marked by a sense of robust constitutional statesmanship. All three organs of the state — the executive, legislature and judiciary are engaged in the common task of nation building,” he said.
