Ludhiana: Facing problems in getting their
GST numbers revoked due to cancellation in view of non-filing of returns, businessmen now have been given a relaxation. The GST council has allowed such assesses an opportunity to get their numbers revoked subject to fulfilment of certain conditions. There is a high number of such cases in the city where GST number has been cancelled due to non-filing of returns.
Leading tax professional N K Thaman said, “The GST council has given relaxation in number of compliances to ensure that the taxpayers regularise their lapses. The biggest relief has been provided to those who had defaulted in filling of returns. According to the details communicated by the GST council, the taxpayers (both composition and normal) whose registration has been cancelled due to non-filling of returns on or before December 31, 2022 and who has failed to apply for revocation within prescribed period of 30 days has been given an opportunity to file application for revocation of cancellation of registration by June 30.”
Thaman said, “The condition fixed for allowing revocation is that the taxpayer needs to pay GST along with interest, penalty and late fee.”
Atul Saggar, general secretary of Apparel Manufacturers Association Ludhiana, said, “The opportunity given by authorities for the revocation of GST registration will give a new lease of life to hundreds of businesses in the city alone who lost their GST registration over non-filing of returns owing to genuine reasons and hardship. Our association had repeatedly taken up this issue with the officials of the taxation departments at various platforms.”
Nitin Sharma, executive member, Auto Parts Manufacturers Association, said, “We are thankful to GST council for accepting our long-pending demand by giving GST assesses as option to get their cancelled numbers revoked. In Punjab, Ludhiana has the highest number of such businessmen whose GST numbers have been cancelled and they were unable to get these revoked. But now they have got the golden opportunity to reclaim their GST number which is most crucial identity of any business.”
