Nagpur: After an illustrious graduation to senior level, city’s international boxer Alfiya Khan Pathan has been taken onboard by Lakshya
Sports NGO. The not-for-profit organization will support Nagpur’s only international star in her boxing journey. Currently, Lakshya supports over 40 players across sports disciplines in the country.
With Lakshya’s backing, the youth world champion and the first-ever Maharashtra woman boxer to win a gold medal at Asian championship, Alfiya, will now be able to solely focus on her game.
“I am glad that as soon as Lakshya Foundation took me onboard, I won the Asian Championship. It has turned out to be lucky for me. Their constant support is helping me focus more on my game,” said Alfiya while addressing a press conference at Chitnavis Centre on Friday.
Lakshya Sports, which has won national award for sports promotion, will be supporting Alifya in various facets like fitness enhancements, mental conditioning, nutritional counselling, injury management, funding for personal and international boxing training, informed Sunder Iyer, founder secretary of the NGO.
Harshal Morde, director of a company that will sponsor Alfiya, said, “We are doing our bit as a company to see India on top in sports and we are happy to support a player like Alifya who has broken all barriers as a youngster. She should be celebrated and helped to achieve all her goals and dreams,” said Morde. tnn
