Dibrugarh: The body of a missing coal miner, Pranjal Moran, was recovered from the Tirap colliery in Tinsukia district on Friday morning, 65 days after he went missing.
The body was dug out from the rubble by a team led by IGP (North-East range) Jitmol Doley. The search operation was launched in the colliery area here last week by police, the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force.
“We finally managed to locate the body of Pranjal Moran in the morning hours after a prolonged search. Due to the difficult terrain, bad weather conditions and landslide we faced difficulties in locating the body. The wife of the dead miner has been informed over phone. We will hand over the body to the family in the afternoon after post-mortem and other necessary formalities,” Doley said.
Moran had left home for work on January 6 and went missing on February 1.
Unable to find him or know about his whereabouts, his wife had met DGP GP Singh here last week with her three-year-old son and sought his help. Singh had instructed the IGP to initiate attempts to locate Moran, which led to the recovery of the body after three months.
