New device to be installed to track criminals at Patna Junction

PATNA: Irked at the frequent miscreants' activities, the railways has initiated the installation of a high-tech device 'artificial intelligence' to keep a close tab on the movements of suspects at Patna Junction under the Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR).
Officials claimed that this is the first of its kind, particularly in the ECR, to tighten the noose around the habitual offenders with the help of 'artificial intelligence' commonly used in the armed forces to track enemies.
According to the Danapur additional divisional railway manager (ADRM) Aadhar Raj, railways has been working on the 'artificial intelligence' device for a long time with an aim to curb miscreants' activities completely as well as to book the delinquents. "Under the new system, miscreants involved in pick pockets, luggage lifting and petty offences on the platforms will be identified with the help of the new device," he said, adding that touts' activities will also be under strict surveillance.
The new system is under the direct control of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) team at the Patna Junction.
"The greatest advantage of the device is that it can recognise the face of the criminals or offenders immediately. The system will have facilities of 'whitelist' and 'blacklist'. While the whitelist will have names and face recognition of railway staff, including pantry car and food stall vendors, blacklist will have names of criminals involved in the past," the ADRM said.
The new device has the system to make an alarm trigger to give a message to the monitoring team about any suspect involved in petty offence on the platforms. "Efforts are on to connect about 170 CCTV cameras installed at the Patna Junction alone to the new system enabling RPF team to track the habitual offenders fast," the additional divisional railway manager said.
