Agitation in WB continues to impact train services
Bhubaneswar: Train services continued to be affected in the state on Friday as the agitation by Adivasi Kurmi Samaj in West Bengal entered its third day. The Kurmi Samaj has been staging a rail roko at railway stations in Bengal demanding Schedule Tribe (ST) status.
The tribal community has been agitating at two stations — Khemasuli in Paschim Medinipur district and Kustaur in Purulia district — under the South Eastern Railway in West Bengal.
As a result, many north-bound trains from and to the East Coast Railway have been partially either cancelled or diverted, the East Coast Railway said in an official communication.
Sources said Villupuram-Purulia Express (22606) from Villupuram, Tambaram-Jasidih Express (12375) from Tambaram on Saturday and the Alleppey-Dhanbad Express (13352) from Alleppey on Friday have been cancelled due to the agitation.
Several other trains, including Odisha Sampark Kranti Express (12820) from Anand Vihar, Howarh-Kantabanji-Howrah Ispat Express (22861/22862) from both directions and Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (22823) from Bhubaneswar will remain cancelled on Saturday.
The Howrah-Jagadalpur-Howrah Samaleswari Express (18005/08006) and Puri-New Delhi-Puri Purusottam Express (12801/12802) from both the directions will also remain cancelled on Saturday.
