PATNA: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said the state government has urged the Centre to provide fresh stocks of Covid vaccine vials to Bihar for resumption of vaccination drive in the state.
"The stocks of Covid vaccines have finished in the state," Nitish told mediapersons after inaugurating the Swasthya Bhavan on the IGIMS premises here.
Asked about the rise in Covid cases in the country, the CM said the state government was "alert".
"From the day Covid-19 cases started, I began getting each day's data. If you want, I can show you the same. I have kept the record for the past three years. Bihar is conducting the highest number of Covid tests in the country. While the country's average is above six lakh tests per 10 lakh population, it stands at eight lakh samples per 10 lakh population in Bihar," the CM said.
Nitish added the state government was alert as Covid cases were increasing again, mainly in Patna and four to five more districts.
"However, the situation is under control. In places like hospitals, wearing of masks is being reinforced. We were also carrying out vaccination till our supply dried up. We hope the Centre would do the needful soon," he said.
