LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that India had made tremendous progress under Prime Minister
Narendra Modi and while people in the country had been getting free ration since the past three years, in neighbouring
Pakistan people had no food to eat.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of projects worth over Rs 1,000 crore in Kaushambi and Azamgarh, which was also attended by Union home minister Amit Shah, Yogi said, "Since the last three years, our government has been giving free ration to 80 crore people. On the other hand, the population of Pakistan is 22 crore but it is facing severe food scarcity. Good leadership takes the responsibility of raising the standard of living of its citizens, their prosperity and their security, while standing with them in their happiness and sorrow. But selfish, corrupt and discriminatory leaders create a situation like Pakistan,".
Taking potshots at the Opposition, the CM said that there were "some" who wanted India to become like Pakistan but after 2014, India has touched new heights of development. He said that nobody had thought that Article 370 would be removed from Kashmir but the BJP government took action and was also working to remove discrimination from all parts of the country.
In Azamgarh, the CM said that under previous governments the district was known for hooliganism, bomb blasts and destruction. He alleged that youth from Azamgarh were denied places to stay in other cities and states and that the district's development had been stalled due to caste and religion. "Now the district has become very close to the capital Lucknow because of the Purvanchal Expressway. The inauguration of projects worth more than Rs 4,000 crore today bears testimony to the development-oriented vision of the state government. Previously, such events were mere a dream for Azamgarh," he said.
In Kaushambi, where athletes who participated in the Sansand Khel Pratispardha were honoured, the CM said that the 'double engine government of BJP' was ensuring that the youth were given opportunities to excel in sports. "The government has decided that there will be a playground in every village and a mini stadium in every block. Along with this, we are also getting a stadium constructed at the district level. In order to realise the dream of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,' every gram panchayat, every municipal body and every district should also celebrate its foundation day," the CM said.
He added that Kaushambi too was being linked with development as the Ganga Expressway was next to it. The expressway would reduce the travel distance between Meerut and Prayagraj to just eight hours, he said.
Praising the PM, the CM said that India had emerged as an example of how governments should function.
