
One person died and at least 21 others were injured after a private passenger bus veered off the Pune-Solapur highway near Daund early on Saturday and landed in a trench, the police said. The bus was on its way to Pune from the temple town of Tuljapur in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv.
The Pune Rural police said that the accident took place around 5.30 am at Malad village in Daund, located around 105 km away from Pune city. Most of the bus passengers were residents of Bhavani Peth in Pune, the police said. Nine passengers with minor injuries were provided first-aid at the spot.
“The private bus of Shivsai Travels carrying passengers from Tuljapur to Pune veered off the road and landed in a roadside trench. Police teams rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the mishap. Probe is on,” Additional Superintendent of Police Anand Bhoite said.
The police said that while one passenger who was injured died, 20 others are being given treatment at different hospitals and are reported to be stable. Some passengers have fractures, the police added.
Pune Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ayush Prasad said that a Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services team responded to the accident.
Further details about the accident are awaited, officials said.
