NAGPUR: Manoj Sarode, in his 50s, allegedly stabbed his wife Madhuri to death at their rented place in Navneet Nagar in the city in the wee hours of Friday over domestic tiff.
In the past, Arvi police in Wardha district had registered an offence against Manoj for assaulting wife. It’s learnt Manoj and Madhuri, married for the last 22 years, had two children — 12-year-old son and daughter aged around 18 years. Manoj used to beat Madhuri over domestic issues frequently. They had shifted to Nagpur from Arvi around six months ago as family members thought change in place may lead to a possible reformation in Manoj.
Before that, family members said, the couple used to visit police station at Arvi and family grievances redressal cell regularly. It’s learnt Manoj and Madhuri had got job in Nagpur and were hoping to settle here.
Despite the ill-treatment meted out to her by Manoj, Madhuri decided to stay with him for the sake of their children, said family sources.
Madhuri’s elder sister Sangeeta Ganorkar said Manoj would tender apology every time he thrashed her.
On Thursday, Madhuri had gone to a temple along with her sister to have mahaprasad. She received a call around 11pm from Manoj, who asked her to reach home immediately. Madhuri returned home, while her son stayed back at Ganorkar’s place.
When the couple’s son reached home on Friday morning, he found the main door latched from outside. When he entered the house, he was shocked to see mother lying motionless in a pool of blood while kitchen utensils and other belongings strewn across the place. He raised alarm and the matter was reported to police.
Police said Manoj had fled the spot after killing Madhuri.
