The police said that while one passenger who was injured died, 20 others are being given treatment at different hospitals and are reported to be stable. (File) A woman died and 30 passengers were injured after a private bus fell inside a trench at Daund on the Pune-Solapur highway in the early hours of Saturday.
Police have identified the deceased as Anita Pawar (30), a resident of Kasewadi in Bhavani Peth.
The private bus was carrying about 50 residents of Bhavani Peth area, who had gone for a pilgrimage to the temple sites of Tuljapur and Yermala on Friday. On the way back, their bus veered off the road and landed in a roadside trench around 5.30 am at Malad village in Daund, around 105 km from Pune city.
Police teams rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the mishap and the injured passengers were taken to local hospitals.
“One of the passengers, Anita Pawar, died in the incident. We have arrested the bus driver on charge of negligent driving. His blood samples have been taken for a medical test to find out whether he had consumed liquor while driving the bus. His
medical report is awaited. Further investigation is on,” said a police official.
