Bhubaneswar: In a bid to ensure proper solid waste management, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to equip all its garbage collection and segregation centres with CCTV surveillance.
As per the decision, the wealth centres which house material recovery facilities and micro composting centres will now have CCTVs with a control room at the BMC headquarters for monitoring them.
“The wealth centres play a vital role in maintaining a sanitation system in the city. The efficient management of the centres is of paramount importance for which we have decided to bring them under CCTV surveillance,” BMC deputy commissioner (Sanitation) Manoranjan Sahu said.
He said that after installation of the surveillance system, activities of the wealth centres will be monitored on a regular basis to ensure their smooth functioning.” This system will add to our digital infrastructure,” he said.
The civic body will execute the plan in collaboration with a private agency, which will supply, install and maintain the entire system for three years. “A reputed company will be selected through the bidding process to execute the project,” the official said.
A total of 135 CCTV cameras will be installed in all the material recovery facilities, micro composting centres and the mega wealth centre at the temporary transit station near Sainik School.
