Rajkot: A 20-year-old man’s plan to extort Rs 20 lakh from a prominent hotelier in Bhuj by threatening to bomb his family was foiled after he was arrested by the local police within five days of issuing the e-mailed threat.
The arrested accused Jalamsingh Rajpurohit. told police that he had sent the email to the Birju Shah, who owns a four-star property, at the behest of a man named Ganesh. Both are natives of Rajasthan.
Ganesh, a travel agent, had visited Shah’s hotel several times as he took tourists there and had even met him. He told Rajpurohit that Shah was very rich and would easily pay them Rs 20 lakh as extortion if threatened with death.
Rajpurohit was previously working at a hotel in Bhuj but is currently unemployed. On April 2, he had sent an email to Shah from his mobile phone threatening to shoot him dead if he did not pay Rs 20 lakh.
