PATNA: A 45-year-old woman was allegedly tied to a tree and thrashed by a group of people, including the director of a college, over a land dispute at Gaupur village under the Ujiarpur police station area in Samastipur district on Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Kiran Devi, wife of one Jageshwar Singh of the same village.
Police arrested the director of Rajendra Prasad Industrial Training Institute, Suresh Prasad Singh, on Thursday. The victim's family members have lodged an FIR against four people with Ujiarpur police station.
Kiran protested after she saw Singh and others digging soil on a piece of land owned by her family. "When the woman raised objection and asked them to leave, they beat her up," police said, adding the woman was tied to a tree and beaten with sticks.
Dalsinghsarai SDPO Dinesh Pandey said police have arrested one of the accused. "The other three accused are absconding. Raids are on to arrest them," he added.
