GURGAON: A tussle has flared up between the management of auto component manufacturing company, Bellsonica, in Manesar and its workers.
Workers and the union leaders have decided to launch a protest against the alleged arbitrariness of the management and retrenchment of employees on Saturday at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
Workers united under the banner of ‘Bellsonica Employees’ Union’ on Thursday announced that they will hold a protest followed by a press conference. “Our fight is against the high-handed approach of the company’s management that treats workers as a resource but does not want to take responsibility for their social security. Instead, they’ve been laying off permanent employees under spurious pretexts. Besides, there’s a constant attempt to weaken the union of the workers and their attempts to extend the collective bargaining power to the casual workers as well,” said the union secretary Ajit Singh.
According to the workers, tension had been brewing between the workers and the company management ever since the lockdown was announced in 2020. “When factories began operations in 2021, the management was citing the loss of work and reduced production as the grounds to lay off employees,” alleged one of the suspended workers and former president of the Bellsonica employees’ union Mohinder Kapoor.
Meanwhile, the company’s management maintained that they haven’t taken any action in violation of the rules laid down by the government. “We are well within the law,” said Mritunjay Nath Sahu, vice president (HR) at Bellsonica, refusing to comment any further on the issue.
