Assam Police will have no vacancy by May: CM
Guwahati: Assam Police will have zero vacancy by May, said chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while reviewing the passing out parade of 1,715 new recruits at the Lachit Borphukan police academy at Dergaon in Golaghat district on Thursday.
Sarma said his government has done 14,000 new recruitments in the Assam Police in the last two years and will recruit 6,337 more next month.
“After this, there will be no vacancy in Assam Police,” he added. However, the posts falling vacant against retirements is a regular process.
Sarma said his government is working to equip the Assam Police with latest technological interventions to help the force deal with modern-day crime.
He added that the state government is working on technological and skill upgradation of the police personnel.
A total of 1,715 newly recruited unarmed constables of the Assam Police, including 535 women, passed out of the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy on Thursday, making it the largest batch in the state's history.
This 178th batch of the Assam Police is the first batch of the academy, which was upgraded from the earlier Police Training College that was set up in 1947.
Addressing the new recruits, Sarma asked them to use their power to help the weaker and underprivileged sections of society.
He, however, asked them to be strict against anti-social elements and work together in wiping out crimes and their manifestations in society. The CM told them to keep their professionalism and helping attitude in spite of all challenges.
The CM said the passing out ceremony and the uniform of the police are the symbols of truthfulness and courage and they should be true to the responsibility bestowed on them.
He also asked them to work to reduce the gap between the public and the police and strive to enhance the humane face of the police.
