JAIPUR: Suspended government school vice-principal, Anil Kumar Meena alias Sher Singh, wanted in the RPSC senior teacher recruitment exam question paper leak, was nabbed from Odisha by a team of special operations group (SOG) of the
Rajasthan police on Thursday.
Rajasthan police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information on Meena leading to his arrest. A native of Kaladera in Chomu town near Jaipur, Meena is suspected to have provided the question paper to kingpins Bhupendra Saran and Suresh Dhaka before the exam, which led to the cancellation of the recruitment exam in December last year. The accused was also the vice-principal of a government school in Sirohi.
Police said that Meena would be brought to Jaipur for questioning. According to sources, SOG teams have been tracking the accused for a long time. After Saran's arrest, he fled to Odisha after spending various spells hiding in various cities. Cops said that Meena had moved to the Kalahandi district and started working as a labourer.
Meena first came under the scanner as the first in the chain of suspects for leaking the question paper after Saran claimed he had purchased the questions paper from him for a hefty price.
Speaking to TOI, a senior police official said that Meena's arrest would help the police discover how the paper, kept under heightened security, was leaked.
The exam, which was to be held on December 24, was cancelled after it was found that some students in Udaipur had received the paper before the exam. Police arrested over 50 persons, including students, and launched a manhunt to arrest Saran and Dhaka. While Saran was held in February from Bengaluru, both Dhaka and Meena were on the run.
Last week, the Udaipur police arrested a woman banker from Jaipur who was allegedly in a relationship with Meena and also played a role in the paper leak.
"Meena's arrest is important. He can reveal to us how he first managed to get the question paper kept under heavy security," said an officer. The investigation into the case was handed over to the SOG.
