What kind of vehicle is the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E? What does it compare to?

The name is borrowed from the legendary Ford pony car, but the Mustang Mach-E’s gallop comes courtesy of a unique EV platform. It competes with electric crossovers like Chevy’s Bolt EV and EUV, Tesla’s Model Y, Volvo’s XC40 Recharge, and VW’s ID.4.

What's new for the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E?

We expect the 2024 Mustang Mach-E to carry over unchanged, following a number of updates for 2023. Those include more standard safety tech, increased range in some versions, and more styling options.

The Mustang Mach-E Premium Extended Range with all-wheel drive gained about 13 miles of range, for a total of 290 miles. For 2023, the Mach-E also got the Ford Co-Pilot360 driver-assist package standard, and Select trims now include a 90-day trial of Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system and the surround-view camera system.

Ford also added the Nite Pony styling package, which is offered on the Premium Extended Range and the GT Performance Edition for $800. It adds gloss black 19-inch alloys and black exterior trim to the Premium model, while the GT Performance Edition gets gloss black 20-inchers and a black GT badge. A panoramic glass roof replaced the black painted roof on the GT and GT Performance Edition, and the California Route 1 now features all-wheel drive.

The styling and driving dynamics of the Mustang Mach-E are both inspired by the gas Mustang. The Mustang’s sports car design cues show up across the exterior lines, with the effect of a more sporty and upscale look than rival crossovers.

The high-tech cabin looks like it’s out of a Tesla, as a result of the center-mounted vertical 15.5-inch touchscreen. Rather than a traditional instrument display, there’s a short, flat, 10.2-inch digital panel.

The EV platform was purpose-built to preserve cabin space, resulting in good legroom and headroom as well as generous cargo space. The design also enhances handling, with a low center of gravity paired with thoughtfully tuned suspension that results in a firm ride without being harsh.

Depending on the configuration, the Mustang Mach-E is offered with two battery packs, Standard Range with 70 kwh and Extended Range with 91 kwh, for range between 211 and 305 miles.

The Mach-E is available with two powertrains, single-motor with rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor with all-wheel drive. The former gets either 266 or 290 hp, and the latter gets 346 hp in standard configuration and 480 hp in GT models. It’s quick in either case, with 0-60 mph times between a fast 6.1 seconds and an even faster 3.5 seconds.

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E lineup includes Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT models. The Base Select configuration gets a Standard Range Battery, the Premium model is available with both batteries, and Extended Range comes with the California Route 1 and GT.

How much does the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E cost?

The 2023 Mustang Mach-E saw a significant increase in pricing, but we expect it to carry over mostly unchanged for 2024.

The base Select trim with rear-wheel drive and the Standard Range battery starts at just over $48,000. It includes the the 10.2- and 15.5-inch pair of displays, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, wireless charging, LED headlights with automatic high beams, and 18-inch alloys. All-wheel drive is about $2,700 more.

The Premium RWD is the most affordable Mach-E available with the upgraded Extended Range, about $65,000. At this point, just get the California Route 1 model at about the same price and with all-wheel drive included.

The Mustang Mach-E GT starts at about $71,000. It includes the Extended Range battery; budget another $6,000 or so for the GT Performance Edition package.
